Legitimate Stay At Home Opportunities Are At Your Fingertips!

by Jessica Franks

Did you know that there are over 11 million parents working from home in the United States today? Considering that in 2004 only 5.6 million parents worked from home, this is a shocking increase. According to the US Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau, in less than 10 years there has been an over 50% increase of stay at home workers. With so many more people seeking information on jobs they can do from the comfort of their home, it seems almost overwhelming to find that perfect position. Work-at-home jobs are, in truth, easier to obtain than people realize.

In 1999 my first daughter was born. I wanted the best for my daughter, and there were so many things I knew I would not be able to do for her if I continued to be in an outside work environment. After taking care of her for those first 3 months after her birth, I was missing working as a professional, but I loved my daughter and had a hard time imagining going back to work. As someone who has always been very self-sufficient, I hated the thought of having to rely on someone else to bring in the money. Initially as a joke, my brother suggested I ask my job - on which I was on maternity leave from - if I could work from home. It was crazy enough that I decided to give it a shot, and while that employer said no, the point is eventually it did happen! Doing this is much easier than you would expect. In the next few paragraphs I’ll explain how you, too, can learn how to do legitimate work from your home, and the benefits of working out of your home.

When I started off, I knew I would have to brush up my resume and make myself stand out from the crowd. I put together lists of my experiences, skills, and qualities, and I gathered reference letters from my previous employers. After I was set with my resume and recommendations, I searched the job market for any position in any industry I knew that I was capable of doing. I imagined during these searches what I would say when contacting prospective companies, and then when I did call them, I was already prepared for what I would ask. Back then I received lots of \”no\” answers to when I asked if the companies had workers from home, but back then home employees were not popular as they are now. If they answered no, I then asked if they hired contract employees. Larger companies seemed to not take the contract positions seriously, but smaller companies were more willing. I ended up being hired as a Bookkeeper with a law firm, where I worked for some time before more opportunities arose.

When you look for your work at home job, there are several things you need to consider.First, you need to consider if you are looking for a contract based employment, which tends to pay more but lack benefits. Or, are you looking for an employee based position with benefits. With the changing times, there are so many legit opportunities that are obtainable. Contract employment may be a little easier to obtain and will also get your foot in the door with work-at-home experience. It will show you are independent and a self starter and put you one step closer to an employee based work at home position. However, you need to keep in mind that many contract positions require experience in the field or a degree.

Next, you need to make sure you have references that will be happy to vouch for your skills, qualities, and experiences. Because you will be an independent worker, many companies that hire such employees conduct a thorough reference and background check to ensure you are a proper candidate. An important note is making sure your references know you by your real name if you use a nick name. It is also important to pick referenceas that are not related to you as the reference will appear more objective and less biased.

Thirdly, and this is very important - make sure your resume stands out! Put what you have the most experience with, or what is the most impressive, first. If you don’t have much work experience, then put your education list first on your resume. If you have more experience than education, then put your experience first. Be thorough and be sure there are no grammatical or spelling errors on your resume - it doesn’t hurt to have a few friends help you proofread it. Just one error on a resume can cause you to lose consideration for a position.

Finally, donat base home employment position availability off Internet work-at-home sites. Do some old fashion research. While there are some legitimate websites out there that are very helpful, there are also many scams. No how to identify scams. There are many scam alert websites you can use to help with this effort. Make your list of various companies and make that call. The worst thing that can happen is receiving a no response and the best is a yes. Follow these steps and you are on your way to not just staying at home, but working at home.

In conclusion, I wanted to mention a couple of the good things about working from home. You’ll save lots of money on gas and on food. Many work at home jobs let you set your own schedule. You can watch your kids, pick them up and drop them off from school and from friend’s houses, attend all those PTO and scout meetings you’ve missed, and all the plays and recitals you couldn’t go to before. The downside is you might have to work in front of a web camera, which means no rolling over to the computer in your pajamas - but the positives far outweigh the negatives. You’ll love the flexible schedule, which accounts for more time for your children, spouse, and especially yourself!

Frugal Living: Grocery Shopping On A Budget

by Judy Turner

It is hard for many families to live within their means in today’s economy. As a stay at home mom of two I had to figure out how to make the most of my grocery budget with prices constantly going up. Here are a few tips that have helped me and will hopefully help you too.

Planning Your Budget

The best way to live frugally is to plan ahead. It is always a good idea to head to the grocery store with a plan and a budget in place. Here are a few tips on planning your grocery budget that may help you stretch food dollars:

1. Calculations - Figuring out how much money you absolutely need is the key to frugal grocery shopping. Throughout the years, I’ve found that it takes approximately $30 - $37 dollars a week to feed one person - it may be more or less, depending on how much your family eats and where you live. Here’s a good formula to figure out your weekly grocery budget:

(number of family members) x $34 (middle ground) = (have to have for groceries)

Since there are four people in my home; I have $136 allotted for groceries. With any luck I can bring this down with coupons and store sales.

2. Plan your meals in advance. Keep them simple: meat, vegetable, carbohydrates. If possible, plan to use the same type of meat twice in one week; you can buy in bulk, separate and freeze. Hamburger, for example, is a good meat to use twice. One day you can make hamburgers; two days later, you can make spaghetti with a meat sauce.

3. After you have planned your menus for the week make a list and put the price next to each item. You can easily get this amount from the sales ads and estimate the other items on your list. This doesn’t have to be exact. If you generally buy the same items often then you probably have a good idea of the cost.

4. Round up to the nearest dollar. Even if you’re buying something that’s $0.39, write it down as a dollar. Those pennies add up; I end up spending $10 to $20 less than I planned to, using this rule.

5. Add up the totals as you shop. Since you are rounding up you can probably keep a running total in your head. Once you have reached that total, stop and check your meal plan. If you’re at your “have to have” amount and only have three meals covered, you need to reassess your meal plan; it may be too elaborate.

Although every household has different eating habits, this is a good start for budgeting groceries. You may have to adjust things to fit your situation.

Eating Healthy on a Budget

The plain truth is that it’s hard to buy healthy foods when you’re on a tight budget; noodles and rice become your main staples. However, being on a tight budget doesn’t mean that you can’t get the vegetables and fruits you need. The next time you make a grocery list, keep these thoughts in mind:

Not all vegetables are created equally - Buy frozen if you can’t afford fresh. The juice in canned vegetables is where most of your vitamins are. Not so with frozen vegetables; the vitamins are still in the food itself. Just like with meat, you can often save when you buy frozen vegetables in bulk. Purchase big, resealable bags of frozen veggies so that you can use what you need and put the rest back in the freezer.

Buy potatoes, noodles or rice, but use them sparingly. Give larger amounts of vegetables, with the starches as a sort of side dish.

Buy carrots as snack foods for the kids. You can buy a large bag for low cost, peel them and then cut them up. Not only do they get vitamins this way, but they’re also low in calories. Most kids like carrots because they’re sweet.

Buy in Bulk

Whenever you can - and if you have the freezer room - buy your meats and vegetables in bulk. Though it’s sometimes more expensive to buy this way, that’s generally not the case. Meats, especially, tend to be cheaper in large amounts.

You can do many things to cut costs at the grocery store; these are just a few tips. However, the biggest thing is to look at cost vs. amount. While generic foods may look like a better deal, the contents of the container may weigh much less than name brands. Do your research - though it may take more time, you will end up saving more money.

It’s Important to Buy the Best Baby Car Seat

by Sally Thatcher

When purchasing a baby car seat, some features are absolutely essential. Keeping your baby safe should be every parent’s highest priority, and a good car seat will do just that. Unfortunately, searching for the right car seat can be overwhelming as there are hundreds of models, features and brands to sort through. If you don’t know what to look for, the process can be time-consuming and draining. Concentrating on a few essential features will help you sort through your choices and find the car seat that’s right for your family.

The primary feature to appear for is the 5-point attach. In the market you will discover two different kinds of the seats, the 3-point harness as well as the 5-point harness. The 5-point harness is upgrade as well as will safe your baby with a little better than 3-point harness. It will secure your baby in a better way, but it will give more of the protection against the ejection.

While everyone knows the basic rule that a small child has to be restrained in a car seat, not everyone understands the other features and safety recommendations for child safety seats. In the most basic terms, there are four kinds of seat positions: front-facing, rear-facing, combination and booster seats.

Even older children are candidates for child safety seats, including children who weigh around 60 pounds. A nine-year-old, for example, might be a candidate for a car safety seat made for an older, larger child. In general, a standard car seat will accommodate a child that weighs 20-25 pounds. If your child is about 10 pounds heavier, you’ll probably need to purchase a car seat that is geared for larger children.

The safest type of car seat to use for babies is rear facing. When selecting one for your baby, you should choose one with the higher weight limit for longer use. If your child is over 40 pounds, you may want to consider purchasing a seat that is a booster only. It is just as important to properly install an older child’s seat as it is to install a seat for a younger child.

Your older child’s booster should allow for the shoulder belt to cross the center of the shoulder and chest. Avoid crossing it over the neck. The lap belt should ride across the hips. If your car has low seat backs without headrests, use a high-back model. You may be able to find a model with adjustable head supports and extra padding.

All car seats for babies and small children are examined and tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Car seats are tested on a number of features, including the ease and readability of the instructions. The government’s suggestions from these tests are carefully considered by car seat manufacturers, and they work hard to update and enhance the design of their products. More information can be found on NHTSA’s web site.

You can easily find a car seat that has earned all As in every category. If you work with ebay or froogle at the same time, you can also complete some of your comparison shopping online. If you have seen a car seat that you think you like at the store, check out its safety rating.

5 Money Management Tips For Parents On A Budget

by William Blake

The importance of money becomes obvious when we have kids. We could have squeaked by living paycheck to paycheck when it was just ourselves, but now that there are others to think about we have to start saving our pennies. Here are some money management tips for single and two parent households.

Use generic brands as often as you can. The generic brands of a lot of foods are the same thing as the name brands, but bought wholesale from a distributor. If kids don’t like generic cereal, ease them into it. Nine times out of ten, it is the name brand that they are hung up on. Pour the cereal out of the package and into a container. They probably won’t be able to tell the difference.

Both name brand and generic toiletries can be found at dollar stores for discounted prices. These could include shampoo, detergent, soap, and other common home cleaning supplies. Shopping at such stores before going straight to the grocery store can help save money. Using coupons at the grocery store will be of even more assistance.

Clean your clothing at home. Some of us are addicted to professional cleaning. Dry cleaning can be expensive - more expensive than it needs to be. The grocery store sells Dryel dryer sheets. Dryel is formulated to dry clean clothing in a home dryer much the same way as a dry cleaner cleans clothing. You can dry clean four to six pieces of clothing per sheet and it is cheaper than using a dry cleaning service.

Buy a used car. Even though everybody loves driving a new car, getting a well cared for and certified used car will save you lots of money, since cars lose value very quickly. You can ensure that the used car you select hasnt been through any severe damage before you decide to purchase it.

Find unexpected places to make your clothing purchases. These could be made up of yard sales, thrift stores, consignment shops, and flea markets. You will have to spend more time hunting down real quality garments at these places, but the price you get will be well worth the extra effort you will have put forth. In this way, the entire family can dress great at a great price.

Take money for savings straight out of your paycheck. The best of intentions can fall to the wayside when it comes to savings because things just come up. Automatically depositing a certain amount of your paycheck into a savings account can be of real benefit. This can be done as soon as you have been paid. Banks can work with you to establish the best plan in your situation. For example, individuals who deposit their paycheck every two weeks can set up bank transfers that channel money to their savings account right away.

Saving money requires determination and effort. Sadly, it is never easy. Though taking out some time to get a hold of the familys financial situation is not easy or pleasant, the entire family (including the kids) is well worth it.

5 Common Symptoms of Ovulation

by Shola Oslo

When you ovulate, you probably notice that you have some symptoms. If you know what you’re looking for, symptoms of ovulation can be very easy to take note of. You usually ovulate between 12 and 16 days after the first day of your last period. During this time, you’ll likely notice some slight changes, such as transparent cervical secretions, or a higher basal body temperature. It’s possible that you’ve always known about these changes but simply have paid no attention to them. After all, they’re quite subtle. However, it’s easy to pay attention to these changes if you know what you’re looking for.

It’s important to be in tune with the way your body works, so you can notice the subtle changes brought about by ovulation. Perhaps the first symptom of ovulation is that your vaginal secretions become thicker and increase in volume. This happens because your hormones change during this time of the month.

Two to three days before ovulation you will notice this increase of clear slippery vaginal discharge, during these days you are fertile but, the last day of the vaginal discharge you are most fertile. This is because it is on this last day of discharge or the day after, that ovulation actually occurs. Remember, sperm can live up to five days in the vagina so even if you have not ovulated having intercourse on these days is very beneficial.

The second symptom of ovulation is slight cramping; this cramping you may feel is often called mittelschmerz which means middle pain in German. Middle pain is usually felt on the side you’re ovulating on. This is caused by the release and movement of the unfertilized egg down the fallopian tube. For me this is not a constant pain it is usually just one of those “ouch what was that?” and then it is gone however, and this may occur several times during the day.

You may have pain associated with ovulation every month, but for many people, it only occurs every third month. This type of pain should be fleeting and should disappear within six to eight hours regardless. However, it can stay around for up to 24 or 48 hours. If you have particularly severe ovulation “symptoms,” you may also have bloating, pain during intercourse, frequent urination, or nausea. You should know that these types of symptoms are pretty uncommon, though.

You may notice that your vaginal secretions are becoming slightly pink during this time, too. This is completely normal and these types of symptoms vary from woman to woman. One good way to check and see if you’re ovulating is to check your basal body temperature. After ovulation, your temperature will rise approximately 0 .4 to 1 degree.

In addition to the symptoms listed here, many have said that they actually feel more sexually aroused during the time they are ovulating. This, too, is normal and is simply your body’s way of increasing your chances of conception. After all, of course, it’s going to take to make this happen!

Even though this may seem like a lot of information, simply becoming more familiar with your body and how it works will help you both identify the symptoms of ovulation and have the healthy and happy baby of your dreams.

Social anxiety can take over your life

by Adam Mahon

Going to the shopping mall may seem easy to you and me, but for someone who suffers with a social phobia it can quickly become so overwhelming that the trip ruins their whole week. A person who suffers with social anxiety may find the shopping mall to be no problem but they may struggle to eat in a crowded restaurant, different people find different situations cause anxiety.

Do you find a trip to the movies sends you into a panic? Well some people do, what about the thought of eating dinner with a group of people you don’t know? These are just two of the things that people with social anxiety disorders could well find totally unbearable.

Imagine spending your work day terrified that you will make a mistake. We all make mistakes, it is natural and no one can be 100% perfect all the time. When most of us make a mistake we just deal with it and move on. If you suffer with social anxiety the fear of making a mistake could well overwhelm your mind and drive you into a situation of total panic.

Does eating out with people you don’t know make you feel trembly, sick and sweaty? if you were suffering from a social anxiety disorder then it is very possible that you would feel exactly like that.

The symptoms of anxiety very often lead to the sufferer becoming embarrassed and that embarrassment compounds the feeling of anxiety. This is part of the reason why people with social anxiety often don’t socialize with anyone other than direct family members.

When you go to pull a plaster off , the time you spend thinking about how much it will hurt seems to make you more anxious than the actual removal of the plaster itself. That is just how it feels when a social anxiety sufferer knows they will have to use a public rest room or public telephone.

Many more women than men suffer with social anxiety disorder, possibly because they feel extra pressure to be perfect in social situations, but no one seems to really know. It is not uncommon for people to have social anxieties, there are certainly hundreds of thousands if not millions of people who suffer with it to various degrees in America alone.

Social anxiety disorder usually will start at a early age. You can be shy and still not experience the same intense anxiety that people do with social anxiety disorder. Shy people usually do not avoid certain social situations like people that have social anxiety disorders. Social anxiety disorder can overtake someone’s life if they allow it to.

5 Ways Kids Can Make Their Own Money

by William Blake

Kids tend to be good little businessmen, willing to do whatever they can to make some money. The five tips in this article will help you impress upon your children the value of the money they earn.

1. Find work around the house. Apart from normal chores, additional jobs can be chosen based on age and what needs to be done to care for the home. Inventing some job just because a child wants to earn money is really no different from pulling cash straight from your wallet and putting it into the child’s eager hands. Payment should be reasonable. For example, paying children forty or fifty dollars to clean out closets is not realistic, while ten normally would be.

2. Start offering a needed service in the neighborhood. Kids can start up lawn care services as soon as they are old enough to handle the responsibility. Parents, however, will have to help their children in making all the necessary arrangements. Putting services and fees on fliers and then delivering them around the neighborhood is a good first step. No doubt there is some potential clientele in the area, especially busy individuals and older folks. Keep an eye on the kids, but allow them to do the work, offering to help only if they really need it.

3. Create crafts to sell on eBay. Your child may be the type that enjoys making crafts. If they have the knack, there is a market to sell their wares. EBay offers a no-pressure situation where kids can see business in action. Follow the policies for setting up an account. If they are too young, you may have to own the account. Take pictures of the items and assist your child in writing a description of them for a viewing audience. Selling on eBay introduces kids to the art of owning and maintaining a business.

4. Have them help monitor younger siblings. Even young kids can help parents in this way. A three-year-old can be watched by a seven-year-old brother or sister. Distinct from babysitting, kids can monitor their little siblings while parents complete some chores around the house, like cooking dinner or doing the laundry.

Don’t confuse them with lots of rules. Just make sure they understand the important things. The younger child has to be followed and watched at all times, toys shouldn’t be in their mouths, and they have to be protected from dangerous things in the home, like the stove.

5. Hold a yard sale. Selling clothes they don’t wear or toys they haven’t used in a long time is another way kids can earn their own money. Yard sales often kill two birds with one stone. The child will clean out his room while getting rid of clutter as well. As opposed to simply throwing sellable items away or uselessly filling the attic with them, a yard sale can be truly beneficial.

Kids are hard workers. Asking for more work is a sign that they are learning how valuable money can be to their lives. These five ways to make money are a start. Add more of your own as you think of them.
